Cyber security public private partnership launch imminent

Brussels, 04/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is gearing up to launch a public private partnership on cyber security (see EUROPE 11578). Commissioner Gunther Oettinger will sign this partnership with the European organisation responsible for cyber security (members include Atos, G4S, Altran, Airbus) on 5 July in Strasbourg.

This partnership seeks to strengthen the EU strategic autonomy in the digital security industry and put an end to the current fragmentation in this arena. It is based on partnerships that have already been concluded in the Horizon 2020 initiative, particularly those on photonics, robotics, high-performance calculations, advanced 5G networks for the future Internet and factories of the future. It will be open to all interested and eligible parties: companies (including SMEs), universities, research bodies, including foreign companies with research and innovation facilities established in the EU, as well as countries involved in the Horizon 2020 initiative (such as Switzerland, Israel and Norway).

It should be pointed out that this partnership is part of a broader package of measures on cyber security and the promotion of a European certification system. It was announced as part of the Single Digital Market Strategy. (Original version in French by Sophie Petitjean)
