27/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Commission opens consultation into liquids that could be authorised in aviation controls. On Thursday 23 June, the Commission launched a consultation to establish airline passengers' preferences for transporting liquids in European airports. The Commission flagged up the most recent technological developments in security controls and would now like to allow passengers transport these liquids in airports, whilst at the same time improving security levels. The Commission would like to use this consultation to develop an understanding of what kinds of liquids passengers would like to keep with them during flights. The Commission explains that for the time being no draft text is planned for amending the legislation currently in force. It should also be pointed out that under current legislation passengers travelling from EU airports are permitted to carry liquids less than 100ml in a one litre clear plastic bag and/or medicines, liquids for special dietary requirements and duty-free liquids that are sealed in special security-tamper evident bags (STEBS).
