27/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - France fires another salvo against TTIP. On Sunday 26 June, ahead of the European Council on 28-29 March, where Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, is expected to call on the EU 28 to renew its support for the EU/US free trade negotiations (TTIP), the French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, reaffirmed France's hostility to the TTIP and said that the project "does not go in the right direction". He emphasised that "from now on, no free trade agreement should be concluded unless it respects the interests of the EU. Europe must be strong. France will try and ensure this". He also explained that this treaty "imposed a vision that not only gave succour to this populists at which was, quite simply, bad for the French economy". The 14th round of EU/US free trade negotiations is due to take place from 11-15 July in Brussels. (EH)
