27/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Commission launches intelligent transport systems consultation. On Friday 24 June, the European Commission launched a public consultation on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The aim of this consultation is to obtain all the different opinions of sector stakeholders, as well as European citizens, in view of working out what action can be taken at European level to support the introduction of the Cooperative Intelligent Transport System Platform (C-ITS). It should be pointed out that this platform seeks to remove the main barriers to the expansion of new generation transport (see EUROPE 11474). The Commission is seeking to present a communication in the second half of 2016 on intelligent transport. The Union would like to develop a legal and technical framework that will help market smart and connected vehicles in 2019, following the Amsterdam Declaration (see EUROPE 11533 and EUROPE 11532). The public consultation will be open until 16 November. (PH)
