21/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU lifts CFSP sanctions. The common foreign and security policy restrictive measures imposed by the EU on Liberia since 2004 (Regulation 234/2004 and Common Position 2008/109/CFSP) have been lifted. This is following a decision without debate taken by the Council of the EU on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday 20 June. The restrictive measures included an embargo on arms sales, on technical and financial assistance related to military activities and on the direct or indirect import of rough diamonds from Liberia. The repeal of the CFSP sanctions comes in light of positive political developments in the country and the lifting of United Nations sanctions through Security Council Resolution 2288 (2016). (AN)
