Brussels, 21/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - The Italian minister for food and agriculture policies announced on Tuesday 21 June that Italy's Council of Ministers had, the previous day, adopted new measures to help farmers affected by the crisis.
The decree will make €10 million available to farmers who agree to implement the EU community measure (Article 222 of the common organisation of the market - CMO) on reducing milk production. Hitherto, few countries have announced any desire to make use of this Article 222 because of the lack of Community funding to provide an incentive to farmers to reduce production (see other article).
Italy has made a further sum of €10 million for the national aid fund for the most disadvantaged, for the purchase raw milk to be processed into UHT milk and distribution to the least well-off. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
