Brussels, 21/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - The Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA), meeting on Monday 20 June, called on the Council of the EU very quickly, and without debate, to adopt the regulation which raises the limits on the quantities applicable for the fixed-price buying-in of butter and skimmed milk powder.
This will be the second time in 2016 that ceilings will have been raised to mitigate the effects of the crisis in the milk and dairy sector.
The new public intervention ceilings will be 100,000 tonnes for butter and 350,000 tonnes for skimmed milk powder. Quantities bought as part of the tendering procedure (open this week while awaiting adoption of the regulation) will not be deducted from these quantitative limits (see EUROPE 11570).
