20/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Promises of key role for ACER in reorganised market. Several speakers at the annual Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) conference emphasised the latter's developing role in the EU's transition to a new energy landscape through the reconceptualization of the energy market. The Commission is due to present a proposal on this question by the end of the year. The President of the European Parliament Energy Committee, Jerzy Buzek, therefore explained that ACER had a key role in the management of the regional level system, which would require increasing responsibility and new resources. Speaking behalf of the Commission, the Vice Director General of DG Energy, Christopher Jones, confirmed that ACER's role would evolve and the Commission saw a role for it in the supervision of emerging regional undertakings, employment rules and principles, as well as coordinated decisions. He expressed these views in an agency press release. (EH)
