20/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Adoption of annual report on human rights and democracy in the world. On Monday 20 June, the Foreign Affairs Council adopted the EU's 2015 annual report on human rights and democracy in the world. According to this report, 2015 was a year of "extraordinary challenges" and characterised by numerous human rights violations and a "worrying trend" to increased harassment and attacks against militants and civil society. The 52-page report draws up a balance sheet of EU action, particularly its approach on human rights in conflicts and crises, including the refugee crisis and counterterrorism. The document also explains the EU's work on the main challenges involving human rights and democracy, as well as integrating human rights into the EU's external policies (trade and development cooperation). At the same time, the Council adopted conclusions on child labour and the theme of "Human Rights and Trade". (CG)
