13/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU releases €125 million to encourage reform. The EU has released €120 million for Afghanistan to encourage the national unity government to pursue the reforms it has begun in order to expand State capabilities and sustainable economic development in the country, announced the European Commission on Friday 13 May. The announcement was made the day after a meeting of the EU's Foreign Affairs Council in its development format, which devoted a working lunch to a discussion with Afghan finance minister Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, who had come to unveil his reform programme ahead of the donor conference for Afghanistan in Brussels on 4 and 5 October (see EUROPE 11550).
