13/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Worker secondment, ETUC protests against 'yellow card'. The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) protested on Friday 13 May against the 11 member states that are trying to block the targeted review of the directive on the secondment of workers by using the 'yellow card' procedure (see EUROPE 11548 and 11549). In a letter to the European Commission, the ETUC “accuses the Member States involved of neglecting their own workers” while all European trade unions “strongly support revision of the Posting of Workers Directive”. The ETUC is calling on the Commission to keep the proposed changes as they are, but Commissioner Marianne Thyssen was unable to say on Friday when the College of Commissioners would decide on the path to take. She said at a press conference that she didn't know when they would answer, admitting surprise that those opposing the review had chosen the subsidiarity argument. She explained that she had checked that the subsidiarity principle was properly respected. (JK)
