11/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Marianne Thyssen says proposal on posted workers respects subsidiarity principle. On Tuesday evening 10 May, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility Marianne Thyssen responded to the activation of the yellow-card procedure by 11 parliaments of the EU member states (Slovakia was the last of them to use this option) in opposition to the European Commission's proposal on the targeted revision of the directive on posted workers (see EUROPE 11548). Thyssen gave assurances that she would examine these reasoned opinions, which she emphasised were for a variety of different reasons. She stated, however, that “our proposal is well balanced and respects the subsidiarity principle”. Poland's Foreign Affairs Minister Konrad Szymanski insisted on the fact that the yellow card should, above all, be perceived as a “clear signal that the Commission should respect”. The European employers' organisation BusinessEurope was delighted with this initiative from the 11 parliaments and has requested the withdrawal of the proposal, although French MEP Elisabeth Morin-Chartier (EPP), who is co-rapporteur on the issue, appealed in favour of revising legislation on posted workers.
