04/05/2016(Agence Europe) - Retail trade down in March compared to February but year on figures better. According to the latest data from the European statistical office (Eurostat) published on Wednesday 4 May, in March 2016 compared with February 2016, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade fell by 0.5% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.7% in the EU28. The largest decreases in total retail trade were observed in Portugal (-5.2%), Denmark (-3.9%) and Estonia (-1.8%), while the highest increases were registered in Finland (+1.1%), Slovakia (+0.9%) and Bulgaria (+0.8%). The results are, however, encouraging if they are compared to the same period last year. Retail trade volume increased by 2.1% in the euro zone and 2.3% in the EU 28. (PH)
