26/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Luxleaks: trial of Antoine Deltour opens. A few weeks after the Panama Papers hit the headlines, the trial of Frenchman Antoine Deltour, a former auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and one of the whistleblowers on the tax avoidance in Luxembourg in November 2014, opened in Luxembourg on Tuesday 26 April. Deltour appeared, alongside French journalist Édouard Perrin and another former PwC employee Raphaël Halet, before the Luxembourg Criminal Court on charges of “theft, breach of professional secrecy and business secrecy, access and fraudulent maintenance in a computer system, laundering and disclosure of business secrets”. A delegation from the Greens Group in the European Parliament is attending the hearing. The Green MEPs have, from the beginning, opposed the business confidentiality directive (see EUROPE 11532) and are currently campaigning for a legislative framework to protect whistleblowers in Europe.
