26/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Bangladesh has responsibility to ensure safety of its citizens, EU says. Highlighting the brutal murders of two LGBT activists in Bangladesh on Monday 25 April, following the murders of an English language professor on 23 April and a law student on 6 April, the spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated on Tuesday 26 April that it is “essential to ensure the protection and safety of all citizens”. “Thorough investigations into these killings need to take place to ensure those responsible are brought to justice”, she added. The spokesperson also said that the EU expects the government of Bangladesh to ensure freedom of expression “as a fundamental human right”. (CG)
