18/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU solidarity with Japan's bereavement after earthquakes. Another earthquake occurred on Monday 18 April in southern Japan, just two days after the earthquakes on 14 and 16 April, which led to 42 deaths and more than 1,000 injured. On Saturday 16 April, the European Union expressed its "condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, following the earthquakes that have struck Japan". In a joint statement, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini and the Commission of Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Christos Stylianides, said "The European Union stands in full solidarity with the Japanese people and authorities…Japan has always proven to be a resilient country after facing natural disasters". They also paid homage to the rescue teams who had been working tirelessly and explained that the EU is "ready to offer any support needed to the authorities at this time of need". (AN)
