13/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Belgian air traffic controllers' strike leaves Commission concerned. Speaking on Twitter, the Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc asked whether there was not a better way of resolving the problem than seeing "air traffic control system in Belgium paralysed again". She said that "European citizens, the institutions and business community would appreciate it" if they found a better way of resolving the strike at the control towers at Brussels-National Airport, which began on Tuesday 12 April. The airline companies have often condemned the repeated strikes by air-traffic controllers (see EUROPE 11517) and on this occasion, they vehemently criticised this strike, which had led to a shut down, just under two weeks after the Brussels attacks. (see EUROPE 11517), and they call on the Commission to take action. In conjunction with the aviation strategy (see EUROPE 11438), the Commission should publish a guide on the optimum minimum levels to ensure management of air traffic services, in the hope of reaching an agreement between the different parties in the air sector by the end of 2016, states a source in the institutions.
