12/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Small-scale coastal fishing diversification. On Tuesday 12 April in Strasbourg, the European Parliament called for a revision to the definition of coastal fishing and small-scale fishing, as well as a gradual increase in fishing quotas, to help boost this kind of fishing considered as being more sustainable. The EP adopted by 669 votes in favour, 31 against, with 1 abstention, the report by Ms Ruza Tomasic (ECR, Croatia) on innovation and diversification of small-scale coastal fishing in fisheries-dependent regions (see EUROPE 11522). The EP also approved by 666 votes in favour, 32 against, with 4 abstentions the conclusion of a new fishing agreement between the EU and Greenland (see EUROPE 11517). (LC)
