Association agreement review process ongoing

Brussels, 06/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - In a written reply to a parliamentary question at the end of March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini confirmed that the review process of the EU-Algeria association agreement was ongoing.

According to a timetable that was decided upon jointly, both parties will undertake a “joint evaluation exercise” and then “will define the modalities and objectives”.

“It could be relevant for the purposes of this evaluation to conduct studies on the association agreement and its impact beforehand”, Mogherini said, believing that “complementary technical studies could be carried out in accordance with the reference terms set out by both parties”. She added that “Algeria's request is aimed at conducting a joint evaluation of the agreement, ten years after it entered into force. The objectives of the evaluation are still due to be defined by both parties but it is a case of evaluating the impact of the agreement both on the EU and on Algeria, especially from an economic and trade point of view”.
