Brussels, 04/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - On 1 April 2016, the European Commission adopted an implementing regulation suspending intervention purchase of skimmed milk powder at a fixed price for the intervention period ending 30 September 2016 and opening the tendering procedure for buying-in.
On the basis of the notifications submitted by member states on 1 April 2016 "It appears that the total quantity of skimmed milk powder offered for intervention at fixed price since 1 January 2016 has exceeded the limit of 109 000 tonnes" explained the Commission in this legislative act published in the EU Official Journal dated 2 April.
Opening of the tendering procedure. The intervention buying-in by a tendering procedure of skimmed milk powder in excess of the limit set out is open until 30 September 2016.
As part of the measures to tackle the crisis, the Commission will very soon present a proposal to double the ceiling of intervention at fixed prices (at 218,000 t for skimmed milk powder and 100,000 t for butter (EUROPE 11520).
