15/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Launch of Get Online Week (#GOW16). A week devoted to digital skills kicked off on Monday 14 March. The goal of Get Online Week, an annual European campaign organised by Telecentre-Europe (TE), is to encourage the “un-connected” to use the internet. This year, the campaign is focusing on two inter-related issues: confidence and digital jobs. It is no longer enough today to be able to read and write, said Commissioner Andrus Ansip at the launch. To have a successful career, digital skills are needed, he went on to say. According to the organisers, 4,000 local information and communication technology (ICT) learning centres in 27 countries and involving 29 national partners will open their doors between 14 and 20 March. This year the campaign also has the backing of Cisco, Liberty Global and Microsoft. (SPj)
