Brussels, 10/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 10 March, the European Commission conditionally authorised the planned acquisition of the generic medicines activities of the Irish company Allergan by the Israeli company Teva.
The companies in question are two of the four largest producers of generic medicines in the world. The decision is conditional on the shedding of a number of assets, including the vast majority of Allergan Generics' activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Commission had concerns that the entity born of the merger would face insufficient competition from the remaining players for a number of generic medicines, as well as in relation to the overall generics activity in the UK, Ireland and Iceland.
It takes the view that, as modified by the commitments, the operation will not pose any competition problems. The decision is subject to the commitments being adhered to in full. (Original in French by Élodie Lamer)
