Carbon market - 2015 verified emissions to be published on 1 April

Brussels, 09/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - At 12.00 on 1 April 2016 (Central European Summer Time) the European Commission will publish duly verified greenhouse gas emissions produced in 2015 by installations taking part in the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS), whether these be a fixed installation or an aircraft operator.

The Commission will grant unlimited access to data on the European Union Transaction Log (EUTL) website.

At midday on 2 May, the Commission will grant unlimited access on the EUTL website to the quantity of allowances surrendered per installation for 2015 as well as the installation-level compliance code. This code sets out whether an operator surrendered the required amount of allowances, based on the data available on 30 April.

30 April is the deadline set each year for installations taking part in the ETS to surrender their quotas corresponding to all their emissions up to that date.

In phase 3 of the ETS, which covers the period from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2020, international credits, that is to say, certified emission reductions (CERs) and emission reduction units (ERUs), are converted into quotas and exchanged rather than used directly. The Commission will therefore publish a regulatory update at 12.00 on 2 May setting out the aggregate number of international credits which has been exchanged for allowances by 30 April 2016.
