09/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Paris meeting on Syria to be attended by Federica Mogherini, 13 March. On Sunday 13 March, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, will travel to Paris to meet French, German, Italian and British Foreign Ministers and the US Secretary of State. This meeting will provide an opportunity to examine the issue of Syria before inter-Syrian peace talks resume in Geneva. Jean-Marc Ayrault, the French minister, announced this news on Wednesday 9 March. The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, also made an announcement that day involving detailed talks resuming on 14 March. Mogherini and the ministers “will examine the solidity of the truce in force since 27 February and if everything moves forward as we hope… encourage the opposition to return to the negotiating table”, explained Ayrault. He also added that the Europeans were expected to ask the Americans to be closely involved in assessing the effectiveness of the ceasefire. Ministers are also expected to discuss the situation in Libya, Yemen and Ukraine. (CG)
