01/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Ireland will take part in the EU scheme to relocate 160,000 refugees. In a press release on Tuesday 1 March, the European Commission confirmed Ireland's full participation in the EU scheme to relocate 160,000 refugees over two years. The Commission had already confirmed Ireland's participation in the 14 September decision to relocate 40,000 applicants for international protection and now, on 1 March, it has authorised participation in the decision of 22 September on the relocation of another 120,000 applicants. On 22 January 2016, Ireland took the first 10 people of its quota of 590 from Greece. To date, 598 people out of the 160,000 have been relocated to member states - 295 from Greece and 303 from Italy.
