25/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - Council confirms lifting of sanctions for 170 people and three entities. On Thursday 25 February, the Council announced that legal acts had been adopted the same day on not extending sanctions for 170 people and three entities in Belarus. The adoption of these acts follows a political decision of the EU foreign affairs ministers on 15 February (see EUROPE 11490). The acts will be published in the Official Journal on 27 February and will enter into force on 1 March. On 29 October 2015, the Council decided to suspend the sanctions on people and entities until 29 February 2016. The sanctions against four people listed in connection with the unresolved disappearances of two opposition politicians, one businessman and one journalist, and the arms embargo have been extended for one year.
