Immediately upon learning, on Tuesday 23 February, the final result of the presidential election in the Central African Republic, the EU sent is congratulations to new President Faustin-Archange Touadéra. “We congratulate Mr Touadera on his victory. The sense of responsibility shown by candidate Anicet Dologuélé must also be recognised”, said High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Development Commissioner Nevin Mimica. They state that “the improvements made by the authorities to the electoral process are a move in the right direction and should be continued”. What is important now is to organise “the second round of parliamentary elections before the end of March” and, “in a spirit of unity and reconciliation, provide a lasting exit to the crisis for the country”.
