19/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - Sefcovic travels to Lithuania for Energy Union. Implementation of the Energy Union and the new series of measures for gas security adopted on Tuesday 16 February (see EUROPE 11491) will be the focus of the visit of European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic to the Lithuanian authorities on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 February. In Vilnius on 22 February Sefcovic will meet Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaité, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, and members of the Lithuanian Parliament (the Seimas). On 23 February, he will visit the distribution centre of Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator LitGrid, together with Lithuania's Minister for Energy Rokas Masiulis. “Such infrastructure projects as NordBalt and LitPol Link, or the LNG terminal in Klaipeda, have improved energy security not only in Lithuania but in the Baltic Sea region on the whole, while Lithuania has enhanced its integration in the European Union”, Sefcovic stated before his departure, underlining the benefits that the Energy Union could bring for Lithuania's citizens, companies and the environment.
