Brussels, 09/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - In a press release on Monday 8 February, the EU delegation to Algeria announced the closure of the EAU II programme. EAU II took place over three years in the water and sanitation sector in Algeria, and benefitted from €30 million in EU support.
What makes the EAU II programme special is that “for the first time” in cooperation between the EU and Algeria, the programme used Sector Budget Support (ABS), “under which the funds allocated by the European Union become available after the completion of a project, when the jointly-agreed indicators have been met”, said Hasina Hammouche, the director of the programme.
EAU II has “contributed to the introduction of mechanisms and concepts to modernise administration of the water sector. The dynamic is underway ... now we have to maintain it”, she said. (Original version in French by Fathi B'Chir)
