Brussels, 01/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 30 January, the EU condemned another terrorist attack which “once more” brings grief to Nigeria. The EU gave assurances to this partner country that it would continue to support it in the joint fight against terrorism.
After attacking the village of Dalori (close to Maiduguri, in the north-east of the country), Boko Haram set fire to the village, leaving over 80 people dead, according to the latest figures.
Offering “condolences to the families and friends of the victims”, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that at the donors' conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 2 February (the day after the 26th summit of the African Union), the EU will confirm €50 million in aid to the countries of the region to fight terrorism.
“The EU remains committed to providing a comprehensive range of political, development and humanitarian support to Nigeria and the region in tackling this threat and in ensuring the sound development of the region”, Mogherini's spokesperson stated in a press release.
On Wednesday 3 February, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari will visit the European institutions. He will meet European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Strasbourg and will speak to the European Parliament at midday during its plenary session.
