27/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns abuse of administrative detention in Israel. The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah restated their longstanding concern in a press release on Wednesday 27 January at the extensive use by Israel of administrative detention without formal charge. They say that over 500 Palestinians, including at least 4 minors, are currently being held in administrative detention. They are especially concerned about Palestinian journalist Mohammed Al-Qiq, who has been on hunger strike since 25 November 2015. Under international law, detainees have the right to be informed about the charges against them, be granted access to legal assistance, and be given to a fair trial. (MB)
