26/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Pause in bilateral relationship with EU. The EU's relationship with Morocco has been going through a difficult patch since the EU General Court ruled that a distinction must be made between Moroccan agricultural produce and fish exported to Europe, on the one hand, and that coming from the disputed territory of the Western Sahara, on the other (see EUROPE 11450 and 11451). A “pause” in the bilateral agenda can be noted, according to Morocco's ambassador in Brussels, Menouar Alem, who also says that “all communication with the EU delegation in Rabat” has been “suspended”, as reported by Moroccan press on Monday 25 January. However, there is no “break off in relations with the EU, nor retaliation measures”, he said in statements to Moroccan press. “We are nevertheless in a situation where the bilateral agenda is paused until Morocco has visibility on the legal security of the relationship that links it to the EU”, Alem stated.
