20/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Commission proposes €1 million for Belgium from EGF. On Wednesday 20 January, the European Commission proposed allocating Belgium €1 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in order to help 412 former glass sector workers in the regions of Hainaut and Namur. The Commission justified this proposal by the existence of serious disruptions in the trade of glass products in the European Union over the course of recent years. The proposal, which now has to be put to the Council of the EU and European Parliament for approval, also includes the new possibility of linking the EGF to young unemployed people, who have no education or training. Belgium would like to link the funding to 100 young people. (JK)
