19/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Belgium before Court over single permit. On Thursday 19 November, the European Commission decided to bring Belgium before the Court of Justice of the EU, as the country has not transposed the directive on the single permit, which introduces a single procedure for third-country nationals coming to live and work on European soil. This single residence and employment permit also comes with a set of minimum social rights. Belgium was to have transposed the text by 25 December 2013, but has done so only partially. The Commission has sent two reminders, including a reasoned opinion in April 2015. As part of the procedure to bring the matter before the Court, the Commission is proposing a daily fine of €52,828.16 against Belgium for non-compliance. (SP)
