Brussels, 19/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 18 November, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini described recent violence at the Kosovan Parliament as “unacceptable”.
Recent incidents of violence and obstruction in the working of the parliament are unacceptable and in a press release published after a meeting in Brussels between Mogherini and the prime minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, Mogherini stressed the need for democratic processes to be respected.
The violence spilled over into the streets of Kosovo with clashes between the police and opposition sympathisers and parliamentarians, who were demonstrating for agreements to be dropped on normalising relations with Serbia. On 11 November, the Kosovan Constitutional Court suspended (while awaiting a final decision) implementation of any act of law concerning association with Serbian municipalities under the normalisation agreements. Mogherini welcomed the prime minister's commitment to future dialogue with Serbia and implementation of agreements. The EU hopes to be able to organise a new dialogue meeting before the end of the year. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
