10/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - New science consultation mechanism launched. On Tuesday 10 November, the European Commission unveiled the team of researchers and academics that will head the new science consultation mechanism that European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker proposed creating in May 2015. Seven scientists have been chosen: Janusz Bujnicki (Head of Laboratory, International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Poland), Pearl Dykstra (Professor of Sociology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands), Elvira Fortunato (Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology at NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal), Rolf-Dieter Heuer (Director-General of CERN, Germany), Julia Slingo (Chief Scientist, Met Office, Exeter, UK), Cédric Villani (Director at Henri Poincaré Institute, Paris, France), Henrik Wegener (Chief Academic Officer, Technical University of Denmark). The seven scientists will have to provide the Commission with “independent science advice”. (JK)
