26/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Serge Brammertz says peace without justice is just an illusion. On Friday 23 October, the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court for the Former Yugoslavia, Serge Brammertz, called for those guilty of crimes in Syria to be brought to justice. During a conference on the subject, “Belgium at the United Nations@70”, he explained that “it is absolutely necessary that the perpetrators are one day held accountable for their acts, whether this is at a national or an international court. If not, our experience shows that sustainable peace will just be an illusion”. According to the latter, “up until now” the crimes committed in Syria have been done so in “total impunity”. The Prosecutor called on the international community to “show effective support” for the international courts. More than 250,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the Syrian conflict.
