Brussels, 23/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission gave the green light on Wednesday 21 October to payment to the Czech Republic of €324.2 million from the cohesion fund and the European regional development fund (ERDF) to modernise its road and rail networks.
Some €46.5 million will help upgrade the Tabor-Sudomerice u Tabora line that runs from Prague to Horni Dvoriste, close to the border with Austria, a line that forms part of Corridor IV Baltic-Adriatic of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The objective is to allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
There are three road network projects. The two-lane highway between Semetin and Bystricka will be upgraded to a four-lane highway, with the European funds providing €37.6 million. At Kolin, a new two-lane highway will be built (€83 million). And the road between Opava and Ostrava has been re-designed and re-aligned in order to ease congestion (€157 million).
The co-funding decision was taken during the 2007-2013 period as part of the transport operational programme. (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
