16/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Global Climate Change Alliance enters phase II. The second phase of the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA+) covering the 2015-2020 period will be officially launched in Brussels by the European Commission (DG Development) on Monday 29 October - a month away from COP 21. The alliance was sealed in 2007 between the EU and developing countries - especially the least developed countries (LDCs) and the most vulnerable small island states - in order to support their capacities to adapt and mitigate. Equipped with a budget of €300 million, this initiative - which is coordinated by the Commission - enables 25 programmes to be supported in 38 countries. The launch of phase II will be attended by European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica and representatives from the EU member states, from EU partner developing countries, and from civil society.
