Brussels, 15/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics, has set up a high-level group of experts to maximise the potential of grassroots sports for all. This was announced at the opening of the world Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) Congress on 14-18 October in Budapest.
The Commissioner called on the experts to develop ideas and concrete proposals for promoting more grass-roots sport. He also stated: “Sport can play a vital role in fostering social inclusion and tackling violence and discrimination. We need to use its power more effectively”.
The experts are expected to begin their work shortly and the results should be made known by next summer. The Commissioner used this event to welcome the success of the first European Week of Sport organised in all member states from 7-13 September. More than 3,000 activities were organised during this event. Nonetheless, he did point out that they needed to further increase activities for encouraging sport, which would help bring communities together and transmit the values of fair play and tolerance.
