New “Youth UP” campaign to support young people

Brussels, 15/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Youth Forum and the League of Young Voters, launched a new initiative on Thursday 15 October to create a policy promoting more solidarity and tackling the political inequality and marginalisation facing young people.

In this perspective, the League of Young Voters, a politically neutral organisation seeking to shed light on the concerns and expectations of young people in the European elections, published a study on Young People in Democratic Life in Europe. This showed that far from being politically disengaged, young people feel let down by the political institutions, which they feel are outmoded. Youth UP campaign has received support from the British MEPs Catherine Bearder (ALDE), Richard Corbett (S&D) and Jean Lambert (Greens/EFA). The new campaign aims to open up a Europe-wide debate on the best ways to “youth UP” politics. Youth UP will also crowd-source examples of different forms of youth participation and civic engagement from across Europe, to truly empower young people and help spread successful grassroots movements that are already underway.
