Luxembourg, 12/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 10 October, the European Union condemned the bomb attack in the Turkish capital Ankara.
European Council President Donald Tusk thus condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the “brutal” attack near Ankara's central station, which affected people who were going to take part in a peaceful march for peace. High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn described the attack as a “tragedy”. “Turkish people and all political forces must stand united against terrorists and against all those who try to destabilise a country that is facing many threats”, Mogherini and Hahn stated. “As the EU, we are determined to defeat those who want to disrupt and destabilise societies. We stand by people in Turkey who work together to counter violence and terrorism”, Mogherini and Hahn added. “Our partnership and engagement with the Turkish authorities and Turkish society is stronger than ever”, they announced.
The double attack, that has not been claimed, has reportedly left 97 dead and 200 injured. Turkey has announced three days of national mourning. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
