Brussels, 08/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 15 October, the European Summit will not enter any substantial negotiations over the question of the United Kingdom's role in the European Union.
A European source said on Thursday 8 October that the October European Summit will do no more than draw up a balance sheet of the British question ahead of the December Summit which will focus on the process.
Discussions have already started at the European Council at technical level and at the European Commission, which has set up a special unit on the quesion headed by former Internal Market director Jonathan Faull.
At the Conservative party annual conference in Manchester on Wednesday, the British prime minister, David Cameron, made no new announcements about how he is planning to win concessions from the European Union to enable him to make a case for the UK staying in the EU, and neither did he make any announcements about the timing of the promised referendum on Britain in Europe. He said he would fight hard to win the best of both worlds - national sovereignty and participation in a common market. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
