07/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - With over 3.2 million signatures, the Stop TTIP initiative wants a political response from EU. On Wednesday 7 October, Stop TTIP, the coalition of over 500 civil society organisations, unions and citizens opposed to the future EU-US free trade agreement (TTIP) and to the EU-Canada free trade agreement (CETA), submitted no less than 3.2 million signatures to the European Commission, demanding a halt to the TTIP negotiations and the adjournment of CETA. Stop TTIP was refused the status of a European citizens' initiative by the Commission in September 2014 but the coalition has lodged an appeal at the European Court of Justice against this refusal. Stop TTIP wants to increase the pressure on EU decision-makers, particularly the European Parliament, in order ultimately to overturn TTIP. A week of action is planned in Brussels from 10-17 October.
