21/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU to continue fight with Egypt against terrorism. On Saturday 19 September, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, announced that the EU was determined to fight against terrorism with its partners, including Egypt, on the basis of the rule of law. At the end of his meeting with the Egyptian President, Abdul Fattah al-Sissi, Tusk, reiterated his condemnation of all acts of terrorism, given that Egypt is currently having to confront numerous attacks of this kind. The President of the European Council also underlined the importance of implementing the new Egyptian Constitution, which should help strengthen the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. He also pointed out how important it was to have a number of checks and balances within the state. The EU will continue to support the economic and social reforms, to the benefit of the Egyptian people, added the President of the European Council. Tusk and al-Sissi also discussed the Syrian refugee crisis. (CG)
