Commission receives 1st SESAR deployment programme

Brussels, 27/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - Speaking on Twitter on Monday 20 July, the Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, indicated that the European Commission had received the first deployment programme for the joint Single Sky ATM Research venture (SESAR).

In March 2013, the Commission adopted an implementation regulation (49/2013) for four areas of action for deploying SESAR as part of the Air Traffic Management system (ATM), namely: - joint projects that target the application of six ATM operational areas; - the deployment programmes underlining the work programme for implementing the different joint projects and; - targeted incentive measures, mainly as part of EU financial assistance (see EUROPE 11212).

In July 2014, the Commission began its deployment phase with the adoption of the “joint pilot project” (see EUROPE 11101) before launching the first public-private partnerships (see EUROPE 11118).

SESAR is the technological pillar of the Single European Sky and aims to modernise the ATM system in Europe in an effort to reduce traffic management costs, reduce the environmental impact of air traffic, triple airport capacity and strengthen aviation safety. (Pascal Hansens)
