22/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns Suruc attack and offers help. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said on Monday evening 20 July that the terrorist attack in the Turkish town of Suruc targeting young volunteers from the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), who were gathered to go and help with the reconstruction of Kobane, Syria, aimed to destabilise the region further and communities living side by side. At least 32 people lost their lives in the attack. Mogherini said that the EU stands ready to provide practical support to Turkey but gave no further details. “Terrorist groups”, she stated, “will not prevail in their goal to undermine international steadfast determination to defeat them. The EU, Turkey and all other regional and international partners will work together even more closely to tackle this threat”. Several EU foreign ministers also condemned the atrocity. (CG)
