MEDREG says electricity infrastructure needs €7.15 billion

Brussels, 17/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 17 July, the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG) published a report setting out the common visions of its 21 member countries of the northern, southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean on the investment situation in the energy infrastructure in the Mediterranean.

The report gives an assessment prior to the development of the electricity interconnection project for both sides of the Mediterranean and on each of its shores. It points out the current weaknesses in legislation in this domain.

“The Mediterranean region urgently needs significant investment in the energy infrastructure. In 2030, the countries of the south and east of the Mediterranean will have to invest €7.15 billion in order to strengthen and enlarge the production capacity of their national electricity industries. This additional production will require development of the grid equal” to what already exists. (Fathi B'Chir)
