EBA to launch two bank solvency initiatives in 2015 and 2016

Brussels, 16/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - At the end of 2015, the European Banking Authority (EBA) will carry out a special exercise and a transparency stress test for banks.

By the end of 2015, the EBA will publish detailed data on the main European Union banks' balance sheets, covering composition of capital, leverage ratio, risk weighted assets (RWAs) by risk type, sovereign exposures and credit risk exposures. The data will also include information on asset quality, market risk and securitisation exposure.

In 2016, bank stress tests will cover a wide range of risks in order to assess European banks' solvency and will be more closely aligned with the cycle of the annual supervisory review and evaluation process, explained the EBA in a press release issued on Wednesday 15 July. The stress tests will begin in the first quarter of 2016 with the publication of a detailed scenario and methodology. The assessment and quality checks are expected to be concluded by the third quarter of 2016, when individual banks' results will be released. (Mathieu Bion)
