Brussels, 16/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - Performers are unhappy with the content of the resolution on copyright adopted by the European Parliament on 9 July, and feel that MEPs did not take account of their interests in the digital environment (see EUROPE 11355).
The associations that have joined together in Fair Internet, which campaigns for an internet that is fairer towards artists (see EUROPE 11304) and which represent over 500,000 musicians, singers, actors and dancers in the EU, are disappointed that MEPs did not make inalienable the right to “fair and appropriate” remuneration for authors and rights holders for legal downloads and streaming. An oral amendment calling for this was proposed by Mary Honeyball but it was not voted on. “Whether they are famous or not, performers are still not fairly rewarded when their performances are exploited via legal online on-demand services”, say the performers' associations. “We will continue the dialogue with the European Parliament and the European Commission”, they promise.
